Abraham Lincoln by Axel 4b
I think Abraham Lincoln deserves to be on a postage
stamp. Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in the midst of the civil war which he
also ended. Abraham was elected the President of the United States of America
in 1860. He gave African Americans a right to vote, a right to work freely and
marry whomever they want. Abraham had made very many brave decisions in his
life. He had a wife whose name was Mary and four sons. Robert Todd Lincoln,
Edward Baker Lincoln, who died in 1850, probably of tuberculosis, Willie
Lincoln, who died of a fever in 1862 and Lincoln’s fourth son Thomas Tad
Lincoln died because of heart failure at 18 in 1871. Robert was the only
child to live to adulthood and have children. The Lincolns' last descendant,
great-grandson Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, died in 1985. Abraham Lincoln
got shot at a theatre right after he had made African Americans equals and
abolished slavery. Abraham was born in a log cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky and
was raised poor. Abraham worked at his farm growing up. The famous toys
“Lincoln Logs” are from Abraham Lincoln’s log cabin. Abraham’s mother’s name
was Nancy Hanks and Abraham’s father’s name was Thomas Lincoln. Nancy’s
ancestry is still being questioned. After Lincoln’s assassination the community
decided to build a memorial but the memorial wasn’t built until 1922. The
architect was Henry bacon, the designer of the primary statue was Daniel Chester
French and the Piccirilli brothers carved the Lincoln statue. Inside the
memorial is the enormous statue of the well known President and on the walls
there is written “The Gettysburg address” and his second inaugural address.
Writing Exercise by Alexandra
Dean was an extraordinary child. He didn’t have the ability to feel
fear. He wasn’t even afraid of death itself. This was neither good or bad it just
was peculiar. He hadn’t felt emotions since birth. People would describe his
strange behavior dangerous or demonic. How his parents tried and tried to just
make him smile. His parents were depressed and wondered what they did wrong.
Dean could tell they were sad because of him, so he started pretending he had
emotions. He started to have friends. His parents were overjoyed but deep down
they knew he was faking it. The older he became the more he enjoyed pretending.
His parents decided to take him to the fair. This was the first time he had
real emotions. Fear on the rollercoasters, Happiness when he won games, Anger
when he lost them, and of course excitement. This was the best day of his life,
and for his parents their last one.
Screaming,Explosions,tears
and blood. That was what he saw. Terrorists had attacked the fairground and were
shooting people. Dean had no idea what was going so he just stood still his
face full with shock. Still he was not scared. He didn’t care that he was going
to die. He would have been shot and died if his parents hadn’t saved him. They
gave their lives to save him,so he could be happy. After the shootings he was
found by the police and sent to an orphanage. Here Dean was tortured by the
other children and called names. He was given very little to eat while the
other children stuffed themselves. He had to sleep in cabinets instead of a
bed. He was treated very badly and this he knew. At night he would curl up in
his cabinet and wish he was dead. He didn’t find any meaning in living anymore.
One morning the police came to the orphanages doorstep. They had heard from the
neighbors that they had seen one child, skeleton-like and bruised, being hit by
a caretaker. The caretakers denied this but then Dean appeared , being
curious about what was going on. When the officers saw him their faces became
white with shock. The caretakers were under arrest for child abuse and the
other children were sent to a different orphanage. Dean however was taken to
the police station to be treated. The police later when he was healthy, sent
him to live with his long lost aunt. He lived a happy life and grew up to be a
police officer.
Sydney
Crosby:
I
think that Sidney Crosby should be on a postage stamp. I think that
because he is really goo at hockey and I want to be like him (I play hockey
too). He plays in the N.H.L., the world’s highest league. He plays for
the Pittsburg Penguins. He lives in the U.S.A. bu he is from Canada.
he plays for the Canadian National Team sometimes. His whole team
gave $500,000 to the hospitals in the U.S.. So I think that he is nice.
So that’s why I think Sidney Crosby should be on a postage stamp.”
