Update Information

Week 12

It is soon Easter break again. The students will be away from Thursday the 29th March to be back on the 9th of April. since it is a Study Day for teachers. Fritids will be opened.

English

Romeo and Juliet was practised again. The unclear words on the assignment was explained.
Natural Sciences
The students have done the 7th and the 8th experiment requiring accelerating the standard vehicle with elasticity as the source of power. They had to document the distance covered in relation to how much they increased the elasticity. They tabulated and drew graphs to illustrate their results. After clear illustrations from the graph it was easy to make an analysis of speed, friction and movement of the “standard fordon” in different directions. In the coming weeks they will adjust the standard vehicle to enable it to accelerate faster in order to increase the distance incurred and make more modifications to enable it to use both elasticity and a propeller to give it power.
Mathematics
The students did the mathematics test. They passed highly. This is due to the repetitive nature of the work. Repetition only creates certainty. Some children could not remember what “tabell” , medelvärde  or typvärde were but the later terminologies are more relevant in grade 5-6. It was just good to introduce this earlier so that it stays in the born marrow by grade six. All the children could pass this test. Those who did not find the test easy was only due to lack of repetition. The children had more certainty with statistics. We will continue to work with time and fractions.
Easter Holiday Forms for “Fritids klubben”
Fritidsklubben will be opened during the Easter Holidays.
Parents Meeting
The parents meeting was a great moment to share ideas and tips on how to groom children to the use of social media. Material shared will be mailed to you when ready.
Lost and Found
Lost/ found clothes will be at school in the basement next to the music room on week 13.
If they are not collected by then they will be given to charity.
Homework
The children who have roles for Romeo and Juliet can learn their roles. The children without major roles can relax with  a good book. Parents are free to steer how much the children are to read.
Svenska

Week 10/11
The break was well deserved. The children have come back with such enthusiasm and open willingness to perform. The hustle and buzzle carries on and it goes on monotones so that it is impossible to know where the sound comes when the children talk, but still the children have been profoundly productive. Each one of them.
English
They are reading a new genre of literature. They are enchanted and tenacious about Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. They are engrossed into the script even during break times. The purpose reading a playscript is to promote reading loudly without shyness and to enhance fluency in reading. This is a better remedy than relay reading. The students are totally immersed to it. The students who did not pick major roles are creating manuscripts for improvisations of scenes.
Charlie and the Chocolate factory by Roahl Dahl may have to wait for a while even though some children already read it as a class book. The children are developing a habit of writing lab reports and slowly being familiar with that genre of writing. They have been introduced to the letter writing format as we intend to be penfriends with students from the USA. They are learning to write to penfriends. Letter writing is quite rare today as people  communicate more electronically. If we could have a quicker communicative moments by getting students to email one another from different parts of the world, it would be perfect.  The pen friend idea was a great and appreciated initiative from a parent. The children have drafted the letter so far. When a final draft will be ready we will post them to the USA.
Natural Sciences
The students started with achieving the following moments of the central core of the curriculum
Physics and world views
Some historical and contemporary discoveries in physics and their importance for people’s living conditions and views on the world”.
Different cultures – their descriptions and explanations of nature in fiction, myths and art, and in earlier science”. (Lgr 11).
They explored facts about the origin of wheels, different techniques of movements of animals in habitats on land and on water. The pupils went on to performing their sixth experiment requiring them to construct a vehicle with an ability to transport baggage in the form of wooden blocks. The vehicle would  be able to move within 4-6 seconds. This required a modification of the sketch from their “standard fordon” (Standard Vehicle). The students started with the documentation process in order to have adequate time for the most exciting construction moment. The construction process is over and technically well filmed and the process fast forwarded and saved to be shown to you in due course. School has been absolute  fun and enchanting  the whole week.
Mathematics
All the students have been introduced to different tables and diagrams, bar graphs and line graphs. The terminologies medelvärde (average) median and typvärde (mode or modal frequency) has been shown concretely to the students. They students now tally, collect data in tables and draw graphsStatistics which started with their own data collected from their own tests with integration to Physics “movement and construction has been easy and fun to do. The students will be ready for a test on week 12. Talsorter (place value of numbers) and Uppställlning  (long multiplication )and kort division (short division) will be tested. The test will assess the students ability to demonstrate knowledge of the skills appertaining to the terminologies in block letters.
Easter Holiday Forms for “Fritids klubben”
The forms enabling students who wish to stay in school during the Easter Holiday has been attached. Please fill the forms and return them in due course.

Update Information
Dear Parents
Greeting from us once more. We request you kindly to contact us directly if there is anything that is unclear to you in our respective subjects.

Skating
The children enjoyed skating very well. Some peculiar incidences occurred like loss of shoes culminating to some desperation however thanks to our 3b parental group a solution came up instantly. The students were exhausted and many were overly sensitive after the exercise. This triggered eruptions against one another from some of them. I hope they had a great ending for Valentine’s day.
Class Situations
We are working on bridging the gulf between the classes and trying to create some solidarity between the grade 4 students. There barrier is hard to break however we are all making effort to bridge it. There are also issues that have existed from the past that are difficult to settle. This week was special because some teachers were absent on other assignments. The children do not like the talking in the class it distracts them from focusing from work. We made a unanimous decision that we are  to contact parents individually about it. Some children are also overly talkative and would like to draw attention from the ones that stay on tasks. We do our part as teachers but kindly reinforce it by talking to the students so that their time in school becomes time of value to them. Many children manage to multi-tax (talk and work) some only talk and play. This distraction is an issue we should teamwork on. It is not that we do nothing about the talking but some habits require time to change.

Mathematics
For the sake of the children that are ahead I have put links e.g https://www.mathsisfun.com/  on the blog that give information and terminologies of statistics. Encourage the students to click around on links in the blog to find information about bar graphs, pie-charts, pictograms, histograms etc. Statistics is in the Matte Borgen 4A and not 4B. Mathematics was integrated to Technology, Physics, Mathematics and Language. The students designed, collected data, graphed their data and made comparisons between their hypothesis and results. Goals for Statistics were stated. Collection of data and tallies were illustrated, tabulated and data plotted , graphed and analysed. Explanation has been given to the children including a concrete and quick way of plotting and drawing graphs. An update plan for Mathematics has been updated on the blog.
English
The students are completing their group activities from

“Matilda” by Roahl Dahl. The LUS test ( Reading Development Test ) showed profound improvement in reading. A few children still require more stimulation in reading. Please let the children read loudly for you at home.

Note there  are many children whose reading skills are already exemplary.
Natural Sciences

The experiments are being done under very improvised circumstances. This creates irritations to children who prefer ideal working environments. We are faced with this dilemma temporarily now as the school is undergoing a major renovation. We also have the pressure of time for accomplishments of experiments since we have only 45x2 minutes  Natural Sciences time for the  lessons plus 0-20 minutes (preparation time) if I do not take any break during   preparation time. This is a great irritation to some children yet a challenge we have to put up with in order to perform the experiments. Experiments are also ideal with a half a class but we do a whole class. I hope there can be some understanding for this. The students are making outstanding progressions in their “Movement and constructions “experiments. The “ standard fordon “was subjected to a series of tests using metallic weights,  data collected indicating  prediction of distant incurred plus actual  time taken with stop clocks. The experimental data results were / will  be tabulated and analysis illustrated by graphs. The integration of Technology and Mathematics provided ground to the next topic statistics (Tables and Diagrams). It is also absolute fun. The social interaction in the learning process which is emphasized in the current curriculum has improved tremendously The students are becoming more efficient in accomplishing their tasks as they continue to evaluate and understand the essence of efficiency in performing tasks. They will study about Isaac Newton and his laws. The material that we  use is similar to Knex http://www.knex.co.uk/.  Knex is available in Tekniska Museum.
Homework
Most children are aware of where to hand in their homework. We constantly remind them about handing in homework. Many children now have a habit of handing in their homework in time and at the right place. They are to do Matteborgen page 148-150.  It is to be handed in on Thursday the 22nd March. The students are required to read  an English book of their choice and fill in the reading log also to be handed in on Thursday the 22nd March.

Winter Sports Break

On week 9 from 26th February to 2nd March the pupils will be free from school for Winter Sports. They are to return to school on week 10 on the 5th of March 2018.
Svenska

Update Information  Dear Parents
Greeting from us once more. We request you kindly to contact us directly if there is anything that is unclear to you in our respective subjects.

Class Situations
We have dream classes however there has been continuous conflicts between the grade four classes with (one another in respective classes )  and across classes. The relationship between the children improved slightly. Continue to talk to the students about their relationship with one another. Some students have been sensitive too and many have been sick maybe this has contributed to the unrest between them. We will do what we can from school but comfort and talk to the children too. Some children are also overly talkative and would like to draw attention from the ones that stay on tasks. We do our part as teachers but kindly reinforce it by talking to the students so that their time in school becomes time of value to them.

The students continue to approach Mathematics using  short and long

Multiplication and Division (Uppställning) and of Short Division using 2-4 digit numbers. In order to calculate the longer digit numbers through place value of numbers (talsorter), they will accelerate to the Mathe Borgen 4b. Please check when they are doing their homework that they show exactly which methods required of them to use. If they are required to use place value of numbers (talsorter) they have to use that method and if they are to use long multiplication (Uppställning) they have to do so.
English
There was a reflection about the holocaust. Comprehension questions were part of homework. There is more progress in the group activity. The children are also integrating their ICT skills to the project work, learning perfect their key board uses including getting to change fonts, colours and printing from their ipads. The students are required to master the use of the keyboard and to use Keynote for presentation..

“Matilda” by Roahl Dahl has given more children stimulation in reading. Some could not let go of the continuous suspense it had. There is now less movement and distraction during the reading sessions. A great sign in the reading progress.  LUS test( Reading Development Test ) will be taken to see how much progress there is.  There is profound improvement and progress in group work too. Some groups who have delegated their workload fairly have done well. Some feedback has emerged too that some disagree on what to put to print. It is still painful to communicate with one another however it is a good sign that they are analysing and thinking critically.    Note there are many children whose reading skills are already exemplary.
Natural Sciences

The students are making outstanding progressions in their “Movement and constructions “experiments. They have constructed a vehicle of their own model, sketched their own model, issued it to another group to construct according to their sketches and culminated in constructing a standard vehicle ( standard fordon) which will be subjected to a series of tests, modifications and results documented in data that will be tabulated and analysis illustrated by graphs. It will be great integration of Technology and Mathematics when we will progress to statistics. It is also absolute fun.
The students have documented   goals, hypothesis, apparatus,  procedures, results and evaluation. They use right terminologies to refer to the apparatus is to gradually becoming  automaticed.. The social interaction in the learning process which is emphasized in the current curriculum has improved tremendously The students are becoming more efficient in accomplishing their tasks as they continue to evaluate and understand the essence of efficiency in performing tasks. They acquired facts about the origin of the car industry in Sweden and followed chronologically how Volvo originated and ended up as a Chinese company. The Standard Fordon” with which students will explore the effects of Acceleration, Force, Velocity, Friction and Weight as we will study those aspects of Physics is successfully constructed, photoed and video filmed. The material that we  use is similar to Knex
http://www.knex.co.uk/.
Homework
Many children are involved in ensuring that their homework is handed in. Many are taking individual responsibility in handling their homework. There will be a spelling test on Thursday the 15th. February.  I sometimes write under construction to evaluate the work load the children have.

Appraisal Talks ( Utvecklingssamtal)
Thanks for a great and prompt turnout during the appraisal talks. The needs of children usually take top priority. It could have been that my attention went directly to a child/ children  and I did not update changes of the times I put on the blog and that is why the times looked weird. My apologies for those affected. If you notice anything peculiar just let me know. We have to be superhuman sometimes as teachers  since can be compelled to attend to multiple impulses at one  go.  The needs of the children must always take top priority.

Svenska:

About 50% of the children handed in their homework in time. That is much progress. The students who are update with their homework have an easy time. Natural Sciences
The initial experiment was an absolute success. All the students achieved their goals i.e constructing their own vehicles centering on constructing tricycles and testing mobility to at least one metre. They had to go through safety measures of experiments as a usual routine, document their hypothesis, procedures, results and evaluation. They had to use right terminologies to refer to the apparatus. There was reflection about acceleration, velocity, speed, and why speed limits varied on the roads. Students who were widely travelled could reflect unfamiliar traffic experiences from other countries. The social interaction in the learning process is emphasized in the current curriculum. Some students may feel it is a waste of time. They will create vehicles of their own design and later on culminate to a common Standard Vehicle”“Standard Fordon” with which students will explore the effects of Acceleration, Force, Velocity, Friction and Weight as we will study those aspects of Physics. The material that we will use is similar to Knex http://www.knex.co.uk/.
Homework
Nearly 50% of homework was handed in. Absolute progress. The students are to do Mathe Borgen 138-140 and students should read. 5 pages minimum per day and fill the Reading Log. New spelling words will be available in due course.
Appraisal Talks ( Utvecklingssamtal)
The proposed times have been given for utvecklingssamtal.
Some parents have swopped times with one another. On Thursday the 8th we meet at the room opposite the 4c classroom same floor as the 4b classroom. I am waiting to confirm if we can have a room on ground floor at the main school block for Friday. I will confirm the room location on Friday.

There was better response for homework increasing certainty in many students approach to homework. The six children who do their homework all the time have an easy time since the work does not pile for them. Their work is already corrected and handed in.
English
There is more interest in reading and more children enjoying group activity for reading. Many children enjoy Matilda of Roahl Dahl. The students have are learning more social skills for group work. This week it has been centred on planning and delegation of duty where each member of the group make a productive contribution to the end product. Fortune Tellers are making predictions for the contents in the story and a possible continuation, Detectives are searching for vocabulary, Reporters are formulating possible questions that can give direct answers and that require reading between the lines. and Cow boys are summarising the beginning, middle and end of the book.  Some children would like to role play and film their group activity all this work will end up on keynote in the Ipads and posters will be made from each group for display in the classroom.
There is  section on the blog for the creative work of students. Creative writing work is still currently on the front page of the blog.
Natural Sciences

The students could have continued with a series of experiments in Chemistry to supplement our studies of Chemistry. Unfortunately, the chemistry package was popular at NTA( Naturvetenskap och teknik for alla) we missed to get the apparatus for experiments. We are compelled to switch to Physics to  the theme “Movement and Construction” (Rörelse och Konstruktion) and extend the creative moment that the children have already had from studying and designing Simple Machines. They will create vehicles of their own design and later own culminate to a common Standard Vehicle”“Standard Fordon” with which students will explore the effects of Acceleration, Force, Friction and weight as we will study those aspects of Physics. They will sketch, design, hypothesize, test, document, draw conclusions continuously, evaluate results and make analysis. This will provide ground for training to achieve higher goals, yet it is going to be absolute fun. The material that we will use is from Knex http://www.knex.co.uk/.

Sometimes we  are/ will be  compelled to switch times and not follow the traditional schedule whenever there is need for prolonging an activity. There will be plenty of time needed for Physics. Children who cannot tolerate change may have an irritation for such changes. This topic will also provides complementary ground and enrichment of their own constructions of Simple Machines and Geometrical objects. It will also be good progression for the skills that  they have already acquired.
Homework
Six Mathematics books have been handed in, corrected and returned. These students that are steadfast to their assignments shared a fact that they did just a little bit of work at a time and got their parents ensuring that the work was done. They demanded that I plan ahead for Mathematics and I have put a plan on the blog.

There will be a spelling test on Thursday the 1st of March the spelling words are already on the blog.

Appraisal Talks ( Utvecklingssamtal)

On week six we will have appraisal talks to acertain whether the students have achieved their goals and focus on what can be done better if the goals are achieved. The times are subject to change since there will be National Tests (for grade sixes)  meaning they will have a higher priority with allocations of rooms available on that week, since  we have very limited space for meetings due to the enormous renovation. I will confirm with the administration about the times and room.

If they are required to use place value of numbers (talsorter) they have to use that method and if they are to use long multiplication (Uppställning) they have to do so. I have scaffolded all the children into these two methods of calculation. Every day I ensure that there is a minimum amount of work that each child has to accomplish.

English
The students have been exposed to yet another narrative with and aim of discussing themes. This will also provide ground for modelling a sequence of events in narratives and the conventions in narratives. Themes of determination, goal-setting and gender stereotypes including womens history provided ground for discussion. We will also read a class set Matilda of Roahl Dahl. A few children have already read it however it will be an advantage for them to study the book as a literature book. The children will be grouped as Fortune Tellers, Detectives, Reporters and Cow boys and play different roles in analysing the book. Some children would like to role play and film their group activity.
They had general reflections, a moment to have speaking skills. They had a free writing session as which was very well appreciated by a lot of students. There is adequate time to work on a specific genre of writing. They will be exposed to the features and sequences of narratives and be required to write their own narratives in the coming weeks. There is  section on the blog for the creative work of students. Creative writing work is still currently on the front page of the blog. They are also making presentations of their Technology projects on “Keynote” in the Ipads. You will have an opportunity to see their work towards the end of the term.
Natural Sciences

The students have learned facts about atoms through a comprehension exercise that integrated Natural Science and English. They have also been exposed to exactly how atoms could look like i.e the protons, neutrons and electrons distinguished by colour. They have been exposed to different elements in the periodic table. They have distinguished between properties of metals and  non metals. They will be exposed to scientific symbols of common elements and compounds and their characteristics that make them prone to chemical reactions.
Homework
There was better response from the students this time about homework. I will continue to keep track of what is handed in to me every week.

Dear Parents
Happy New Year. The students have now all come back to school.
Svenska:
Mathematics
Now that there is an adequate overview of the abilities of the students in Mathematics, there is need to have an acceleration and enrichment in order to keep the students interested at the same time coach moments that give good prerequisites to upcoming topics. The students will study Multiplication and Division and get tested on the skills within 4 weeks. Thereafter they will do Statistics.
English
They had general reflections, a moment to have speaking skills. They had a free writing session as which was very well appreciated by a lot of students. There is adequate time to work on a specific genre of writing. They will be exposed to the features and sequences of narratives and be required to write their own narratives in the coming weeks. I will have a section on the blog for the creative work of students. They are making presentations of their Technology projects on Keynote in the Ipads. You will have an opportunity to see their work towards the end of the term.
Natural Sciences
The students will continue to study chemistry. They will work distinguish between elements and compounds and learn about atoms and molecules.
Homework
The homework is different for the students depending on their tempo of work and their abilities to stay on task during class time. They all individually know which pages of Mathematics they are to do. If you want to know specifically what your child is to do for homework you can contact me directly by email. However, I remind them on a daily basis about their homework. The children who have were to do page 110-112 on week 2 can do page 116-119 for homework on week 3. The children who had page 116-119 for homework can do page 128-129. The work should be handed in on Friday the 19th. The reading can continue since many children need to polish up their coherence in reading. You can let the children read loudly for you too. The reading log will be issued on Monday for English.

Update Information Week 50/51
Dear Parents
Greetings to all parents again. The term has ended very quickly. It has been a great pleasure to have your children.

Lucia
All the children turned up in time for the Lucia Ceremony in school. Six children represented our class in the parade and had a continuation in the class.
End of Term/Fritids Klubben`s Application Forms
The  21st of December will be the last day of school. The students are to come to school at 8:20 as usual. There will be an assembly at the school yard for children and parents at 8:30. The parents are free to leave after the assembly. There will various activities including a show to the students by teachers. Students end school at 14:00.
Homework
More children handed in their reading logs. Children can read
one or two books during the holidays.
English
Next week we will be exposed to a genre of literature ( with a Christmas theme) in order  to be introduced to factions of narratives. It will be for preparation for writing process which we will continue with next term.
Natural Sciences
The children distinguished between elements and compounds and had a visual possibility of seeing how liquid nitrogen managed to convert liquid water into solid very quickly. They were exposed to how temperature affects solids, liquids and gases initiating changes of those states of matter.

Mathematics
The mathematics test was administered. I am quite optimistic about the results. The Geometry test felt challenging to some students. The shape rhombus “romb” surprisingly created a difficulty to basically all children. I am optimistic about the results however as usual tests provide anxieties.
Svenska
Best Regards

Week 49/50
Dear Parents
Greetings to all parents again.

Lucia
On Lucia day the 13th of December, grade 4b`s will come to school as usual and will witness the procession that will start at 8:45. We will move to the main block before at 8:30 before the door is closed again for the ceremony.

End of Term/Fritids Klubben`s Application Forms
This Term will end on the 21st December. There will be multiple activities including a show for children performed by teachers. The end of term programme will be updated.  Students will start school as usual and end at 14:00. The Fritids Klubben`s application forms have been sent to all parents by Mikaela. Fill them and hand them in in good time.

Homework
The students are to prepare for the Geometry test. More details about the test in on the

Mathematics section.
English

The students continue to read Number The Stars by Lois Lowry. The students expounded on characterization and how to explain events chronologically. They will try to identify the main idea in the book. This will be essential during their writing process moments. The spelling test was a success. All the children passed the test.
Natural Sciences
A re-test has been done for the biology test for the purpose of retaining knowledge and  about guaranteeing best performance. I have tried this before with other students and it worked perfectly. Children approach the test again when more relaxed, have no anxiety and therefore receptive to the knowledge.

All the children who have done the re-test have passed the test.
Mathematics

The children have constructed three dimensional geometric objects with an aim of understanding and being able to describe the properties accurately. They constructed tetrahedrons, and arectangular prisms. Some could easily figure out how to construct pyramids.
They should be able to identify the geometrical forms on page 80,89 and 97of Matte Borgen 4A , estimate lengths, understand units of lengths e.g millimetres, centimetres, decimetres, metres and kilometres, as part of preparation for the test.  They should also be able to calculate perimetres and areas of 2 dimensional objects. Identifying shapes seem easy however if they have to describe them using the right terminologies as acute, obtuse, right angles, parallel lines etc and making comparisons between them it can appear easy however it is not always that easy.
Läs klart boken ”En liten prinsessa” sid. 78- 93.

Update Information
Week 48/49
Dear Parents
Greetings to all parents again.
Food
Many children take very little food during lunch time. This makes work very exhausting for them especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Homework
Many students have not handed in their reading logs. The homework that was issued on week 46 (Page 62-64 Matte Borgen) and page (82-84 for those who had finished the topic “Addition and Subtraction” and had started doing Geometry). I was hesitant to demand this from the students since they had to do a science test on week 47. Homework is to be handed in on Thursdays. Only 3 students showed their reading logs for English this Thursday. Homework for this week is on Page 82-84 for those who are just starting to do Geometry and page
English
The students have started reading “Number the Stars “by Lois Lowry . They have defined character and characterization in order to be able to start an analysis on the book. The students expounded on characterization and how to explain events chronologically. This will be essential during their writing process moments. New spelling words are available on the blog. The spelling test will be done on Thursday the 7th December.
Natural Sciences
The biology test was done. The results were good. Some students got quite stressed and could not answer questions which they discovered were so simple during the revision Some children have to take the test again for the purpose of retaining the knowledge. The students brain stormed on what Chemistry is. Chemistry has been defined  and the states of matter has been explained.

Mathematics
Most children  are now doing Geometry, they have done both traditional ways of measuring and estimated the lengths and widths  items they have in the classroom. It was interesting for them to measure their own heights which we will tabulate and draw bar graphs of and be able to make comparisons of how much they will have grown after some months. They have identified and described different geometrical shapes and their properties . They should be able to identify the geometrical forms on page 80,89 and 97 of Matteborgen 4A , estimate lengths, understand units of lengths e.g
millimetres, centimetres, decimetres, metres and kilometres, as part of preparation for the test.  They should also be able to calculate perimetres and areas of 2 dimensional objects. A Geometry test will be done on week 50.

Svenska

61-73 i ”En liten prinsessa”. Ta med boken till skolan!

Food
Many children take very little food during lunch time. This makes work very exhausting for them especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Packing one fruit/carrot etc  for every child would make a whole difference.
Extra Warm Clothes
It is now really cold. It is still a good idea for the children to have extra warm clothes at school to be able to change to dry clothes/socks/ gloves in case they become wet.
Homework
The students have been issued with a yellow folder specifically for homework. In the folder there is a reading monitor sheet (log) and a worksheet for Mathematics. Since the children were preparing for the Biology test, demands for handing in homework was eased. I have corrected 6 assignments and got feedback from 2 reading logs.
Please remind the students about handing in their reading logs and
homework for correction.

41-57 i ”En liten prinsessa”.

Week 46/47
Dear Parents
Greetings to all parents again.
Autumn Break
It has paid off for the children to have had the relaxation during the autumn break. They have been fully geared to want to perform sometimes they never want to leave the classroom. Some enjoy their reading and are proud of reporting having read “82 pages”!!. This is definitely not a requirement from me but a sign of developing a passion for reading.  We changed their places randomly and some children focus better in their new places.
Extra Warm Clothes
It is becoming cold. It is a good idea to pack extra clothes for the children in case they get wet or feel a bit colder.
English
Reading is still a central focus at school. They will start reading a new class set of books. A reading development test will be done next week to ascertain if there is some improvement in reading. There has also been reflections on homelessness, “begging”  and children showed expressions of empathy to those who are less fortunate. New words  are on the blog for the next spelling test. The students will be introduced to writing process skills. Mikaela and I will refresh the techniques of writing. With the right technique writing can become a pleasure.
Natural Sciences
Not all students were available in school this week we will give them the test. I have also issued to them material for the parallel classes for deepening their knowledge in the topic that we are winding up with. In two weeks all children will be back in school to be ready for the test.
blog http//www.4bsuperheroes@blogspot.se “Natural Sciences"
Mathematics
We are to be winding up with addition and subtraction. Some children have already started with Geometry. The students who are ahead will get more challenging work.
Homework
A reading log has been issued which will be a requirement to fill from week 45 on Monday. Spelling words are available too. They will
do page 62-64 of Matte Borgen. Those have started with Geometry can do page 82 och 83.
Svenska

Dear Parents

It is now time for students to take a break and bond with family for one week. It has been fantastic weeks. We look forward to meeting the students again on week 45. We thank  you very much for all the cooperation, understanding and support.

Extra Warm Clothes

It is becoming cold. It is a good idea to pack extra clothes for the children incase they get wet or feel a bit colder.
Questionnaire from School Inspection
Parents are kindly requested to fill the form from School Inspection
incase they have not done so.
Autumn Break
The children will have their autumn break on the week 44. There will break from school from the 30th Oct to 3rd November 2017. The students are to come back on the 6th of November 2017.
United Nations Day 24th Oct Tuesday./ Halloween 27th on Friday,
United Nations day was enjoyed by the students in the classroom. There was an assembly at the School Yard.  The children sung a unison song “We Are The World”. A change of location of performance venue and inaccessibility to information of change of schedule barred grade fours from attending activities organised by the grade threes. We however enjoyed our fruit potluck which boosted the level of input of work on the part of the students. Many students did not want to stop the tasks they were engaged into.
We had the privilege of being visited by a student`s grandparents from USA who engaged the students in story reading, songs and Halloween niceties. The children were happy.
English
The words on the blog were extracted by the students from the text allocated for schools about United Nations. The children of today even those that have English as a second language have wider vocabulary in games like minecraft and many children in the class have good reading traditions and exposure. The spelling test results were good many children got everything right and some missed only a few words. I have issued children with a reading log. It is optional for them to read during the autumn break.
Natural Sciences
Biology tests had to be postponed due to the nature of the week with UN day and Halloween.
They have material that they can read to prepare for the test. There are also links on the blog http//www.4bsuperheroes@blogspot.se “Natural Sciences"
Mathematics
After completion of Addition and Subtraction the students will start with Geometry.
Homework
The students need a break and quality time to bond with family members. They have no homework. They can however soothe themselves to sleep with a good book. A reading log has been issued which will be a requirement to fill from week 45 on Monday.
Svenska

Dear Parents
Greetings from us to all parents once more
Appraisal Talk
It was a great pleasure for us to meet all of you for our collective purpose of discussing your children`s progress. All parents were prompt.
Home Work
For homework check the blog http://www.4bsuperheroes@blogspot.se
Johannes OS (Athletics Day)
The 3rd Of October will be Sports Day at Kristineberg IP. The students will participate in long jump, high jump, short put, 60 metres race, 800 metres, throwing a small ball and relay. It is not known yet how the weather will be like however comfortable sports clothes in conformity with the weather is recommended. The children are required to have packed lunch including some water or juice. Frizzy drinks are not recommended. We will assemble in school as usual according to normal schedule and estimate to be back to school by about 14:00.
English
The children have done a diagnostic test to establish how much writing the students can accomplish within one hour. The children will learn identify texts in different genres and be able to structure their work according to the specific genres they will work with before they are trained on the details of writing process. At the moment it is important to instil into the students a passion for reading. A few students are already very passionate about reading and a different quality of writing can be clearly identified in their texts. The spelling test was postponed due to the IDP talks. The tests will be done on Monday the 2nd October.
Biology
The children will continue writing facts about plants in various types of ecosystems e.g plants in water, in desert regions, mountain plants etc including carnivorous plants, seed bearing plants, non-flowering plants etc. They are working in pairs or individually. They have been introduced to various Simple Machines, They will examine the historical aspects of technology verses simple machines and construct their own simple Machines
Mathematics
The next Topic will be Addition and Subtraction which will start with simple revisions. Children tend to want to skip the easy parts however from experience I´d rather that they scanned quickly through the easy sections and gradually continue to levels requiring more cognitive understanding to manage to structure the work well while applying right methods, strategies, arguments, communication including using right terminologies to present the answers.

Week 38/39
Dear Parents
Great appreciation on the part of the parents who are stepping in to be involved in the school council for our class. John Viner and Sofia Sheppard are going to be the representatives for the School council. I am sure with time two parents will also volunteer to be class parents and help the class to plan fun activities for the children who well deserve to be peppered in order to motivate them to success.
English

The students have had comprehension exercises as a diagnosis for their ability to read, understand, interpret texts and read between the lines. The exercises were done swiftly by the students. They also got some vocabulary exercises to do. They have watched a film which will profound ground for character analysis and reflecting on ethical themes.
Mathematics

On week 40 the students will be ready to have their first quiz on Number Sense. They have been issued with a worksheet  to revise for the test.
Natural Sciences
The students will team up to find facts about work about pre-historic plants, plants in water, in desert regions, carnivorous plants, plants used as medicine, plants in danger, mountain plants, flowering plants and non-flowering plants. Social Studies

Week 37
Dear Parents
I greet you again this week. John Viner has volunteered to be the School Council representative. There is need for a suppleant. The representatives for school council usually discuss matters related to the entire school We certainly need two additional parents to be class parents too. Whenever you are ready you can always contact us.Jacqueline.achieng.zettergren@stockholm.se and/ or Mikaela.ideström@stockholm.se
English The students are reading Wonder by R.J Palacio. They are also practising grammatical rules. They will also be able to identify subjects of sentences. They have written the words which they are to learn to spell. They will get copies of the words on Monday. The list is also available on the blog (click on homework).
Mathematics The students continue to work with place value of numbers. I will inform you about when they will be ready to have  a quiz just to check if they understood and can demonstrate the place value of numbers.
Biology

They will do a project about one or two of the common trees in Sweden. This has been integrated into art. The students will do group work about plants in water, in desert regions, tropical plants, carnivorous plants, non-flowering plants, plants used as medicine.
Photography
The students will be photoed on Friday the 15th of September at 10:00. Best Regards Jacqueline, Mikaela, Ulla and Rickard

Week 36
Dear Parents
There was a good turn out during the parents meeting. A summary of the main points in the meeting will be enclosed separately. A central issue that was not finalised is selection of representatives of the School Council. There is need for one representative and a suppleant.
If parents agree to who is to represent them, or if you want the previous representatives to continue please email us.Jacqueline.achieng.zettergren@stockholm.se and/
or Mikaela.ideström@stockholm.se
Swimming
The swimming test was a success for   the children given the fact that they missed the swimming course offered by the school in the 2nd grade. Every Thursdays at 12:30
the grade four children who need to polish up their swimming  techniques will be taken for swimming lessons arranged by the school. Remember to pack their swimming trunks, costumes, a towel shampoo/balsam and maybe a fruit.
Hagadagen
On Wednesday the 6th the students will have a mini Marathon at Hagaparken. They are required to have packed lunch to school on that day and dress appropriately for outdoor activities and weather.
Extra Clothes
It is optional for parents to  pack extra clothes for children. If the pack is well labelled, then we will find storage for it. Sometimes they get wet even when they are well dressed for the weather.
English
The students are reading Wonder by R.J Palacio. They are also practising grammatical rules.
The have distinguished between complete and incomplete sentences. They will also be able to identify  subjects of sentences. The students will be issued with 10-20 words a week to learn to spell and have a weekly spelling quiz.
Mathematics
The students continue to work with place value of numbers. I will inform you about when
they will be ready to have  a quiz just to check if they understood and can demonstrate the place value of numbers.
Biology
The students are identifying and describing different shapes of leaves of trees. They will do a project about one or two of the common trees in Sweden. This has been integrated into art.
Social Studies
Veckans ena SO-lektion försvann p.g.a. simning.
English
The students have completed their About Me theme. Some children are stepping it a level higher by making  posters with pictures from their family members and famous artists, football teams, logos, favourite players etc. Next week the children will start working with the theme Summer Holidays. It is relevant before autumn season. They will read as much as they wish to but at least five pages next week.
